James Cartales
- Consumer & Retail
There are no shortcuts to success. Whether our clients have been building a business for three years or three generations, the key to a good transaction outcome is hard work, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the drivers and points of differentiation of the company.
It means having the confidence and independence to drive the trajectory of a transaction. The foundation of our advisory practice is based on the trust our clients’ place in our experience and credibility – directly derived from the combination of our knowledge and – most importantly – our results.
Working closely with my clients to understand their goals and set a strategy, then developing and executing a plan to bring those goals to fruition.
I am passionate about working with entrepreneurs and management teams that have fun. I firmly believe in genuine relationships and that you should enjoy the company of the people with which you do business. Life is too short to spend it with people who make you unhappy.
James’ expertise is advising founder and family-owned ecommerce and consumer-facing companies that are approaching an inflection point in their business on the appropriate and available capital strategies. In addition to his insight into the private capital markets, James takes a demographic-driven approach to understanding the value drivers for both emerging and established middle market consumer and retail brands. Within the firm, James has unique experience structuring multi-unit retail and restaurant M&A transactions and recapitalizations, including real estate and sale leaseback components.
James is a Managing Director in Cascadia’s Consumer & Retail practice. In this role he focuses on advising omnichannel branded consumer companies on mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations and private placements.
As a founding member of the firm’s Consumer practice, he has been involved with the execution of most of the firm’s marquee branded consumer transactions.
