    A:

    The decision to raise capital from a new partner or to sell one’s company is often the most important decision a business owner ever makes. The transaction process can be highly emotional and personal, and as a result, I build deep relationships based on trust with our clients that often last years after a transaction is complete.

  • Q: What drives you?
    A:

    I want our clients to be happy with all aspects of a transaction; the level of service, the financial outcome, the creativity brought to the table, and how his or her employees were treated. It is important to me that they are happy not only the day a transaction closes, but in the ensuing years.

  • Q: What are you passionate about?
    A:

    I am passionate about our clients who are often leaders in their consumer field and inextricably tied to their local economy and community. I most enjoy working with founders, families and business owners to help them find the right partner for their business, balancing financial, cultural fit and legacy objectives to find the optimal solution; always listening to our client’s needs first.

Expertise

Townsend has over 30 years of experience in investment banking and private equity, with M&A and capital raising experience across small, medium and large cap companies. He maintains deep domain expertise in the beverage sector, with particular knowledge in craft beer, craft spirits and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as general consumer product experience. Having sold or partnered over a dozen craft beer transactions, Townsend is a leading M&A banker in the craft beer industry.

Townsend’s clients benefit from his extensive transactional expertise, as well as skills in structuring, creative deal making, alcohol regulatory and tax expertise.

Bio

Townsend is a Managing Director in Cascadia’s Consumer & Retail group, focused on supporting Cascadia’s beverage sector clients. He was previously a Managing Director at First Beverage Financial, which merged with Cascadia in March 2018. He has spent his career in investment banking and private equity at Cascadia, First Beverage Group, Wasserstein & Co., Wasserstein Perella & Co. and The First Boston Corporation. He has completed over $40 billion in mergers and acquisitions advisory assignments, and as a principal investor over 30 private equity investments ranging from leveraged buyouts and growth equity to venture capital. In this capacity, he has served on numerous private and public company boards of directors. Townsend is a former Director and Non-Executive Chairman of Imax Corporation, a leading large-screen film projection company, and a former Director of two other public companies: Collins & Aikman Corporation, a $2 billion automotive components company, and Maybelline, Inc., a leading mass market cosmetics manufacturer.

Townsend formerly served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City. He was also formerly on the Board of Fellows of Trinity College and was the President of the Board of Trustees at West Side Montessori School in New York City.

He received his B.A. in Economics from Trinity College and his M.B.A. from The Stanford Graduate School of Business.
